Love this piece! I don't think there's any better way to get insight into a person than to know what they like to read (or even that they like to period). One of my best friends who I've known since high school gave me her favorite book as a Christmas present and I don't think I've had a better gift. I thought I knew almost everything there was to know about her, but reading her favorite book taught me so much more. Books are amazing and thanks for sharing your faves and how you like to read! I have my 2 latest library checkouts next to me as we speak.

Mr. Ex wasn't much of a reader. At least, not of books. That should've been a red flag for from the get-go. What was the book she gave you? I still have my original hardback copy of Where the Sidewalk Ends that my parents gave me when I was young. It's well preserved like all those romance books used to be. LOL

She gave me "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. Super beautiful book. Very heavy on the nature too which makes perfect sense for my friend. I have my original hardback of Where the Sidewalk Ends too! Makes me so mad Shel Silverstein's books are getting banned places now. They're so good.

Wait--WHAT?! His books are being banned?!! What the fuck? Are you serious? Where? Which ones? How is that even possible? They ARE good. There's a local vegan cafe here where the owner purposely named his place after one of his books, The Giving Tree. And they have THE BEST food.

My thoughts exactly. I think Where the Sidewalk Ends was one people were trying to ban... something about mention of suicide or something silly like that? I think The Giving Tree has had its share of trying to be banned too. I don't think I've read that one, so I'll definitely have to! That's so cool the cafe owner named it after that book. Book banning people seriously need to shove it.

Agreed, they do need to shove it. If you don't want to read it yourself, fine, but don't make that decision for everyone else!
